To sustain a research culture in natural products, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) announced a call for Undergraduate thesis grant in Natural Products. The program aims to increase the number of researches in natural products and build a pool of experts specializing in the same field.

In Davao Region, two commendable undergraduate teams from San Pedro College and Davao Doctors College were granted by the DOST-PCHRD with an amount of  Fifty Thousand Pesos (P 50,000.00) in support to their research on Pouteria Lucuma (tiesa) and Corchorus (saluyot) respectively. Upon completion of their study, these students will have a chance to represent Davao Region and compete during the 2019 Philippine National Health Research System week celebration.

Last September 13, 2018 at Hotel Tropika, Lanang, Davao City,  representatives from DOST-PCHRD, Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI), students and advisers from the two institutions convened to discuss the guidelines of the grant which was then followed by the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement.

The RHRDC XI and DOST-PCHRD recognizes and supports the innovative work of young researchers on natural products to develop safe, effective and affordable alternative drugs from the country’s natural resources.
