We are pleased to inform you that the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), one of the Newton UK Delivery Partners, is inviting proposals for the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)/ Newton Fund Agile Response to Address COVID-19 which aims to help address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak across developing countries.

The proposals should be for short-term (18 months) projects addressing and mitigating the health, social, economic, cultural, and environmental impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC), including the Philippines.  The proposal should meet at least one of the following:

  1. New research or innovation with a clear pathway to impact on policy or practice that has the potential (within the period of the award) to deliver a significant contribution to the understanding of, response to, and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in a developing country context;
  2. Supports the manufacture and/or wide-scale adoption of an intervention with significant potential for impact in developing countries; and
  3. Gathers critical data and resources quickly for future research use.

Projects will be funded through the GCRF and the Newton Fund. Match contribution  will not be required from Newton Fund partner countries unless they decide to provide matching funds at a later stage, if they would like to offer further support to the project (delayed match concept).  There is no specific budget limit but UKRI is interested in research of any scale that can demonstrate that it will deliver impact during the lifetime of the project.

Interested applicants may submit their accomplished proposal application form (sample attached) and the required annexes to This email address is being protected from spambots.
