The REMB XI, with the collaborative efforts of the Regional Health Research and Development (RHRDC) XI and the 5 SUCs namely Compostela Valley State College (CVSC), Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) and the University of the Southeastern Philippines (USEP) , facilitated a Basic Research Ethics Training last April 25 to 26, 2018 at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City.

Dr. Warlito C. Vicente, the Chairperson of the RHRDC XI, welcomed the participants by challenging them to develop researchers with both scientific and ethical soundness. Dr. Ricardo M. Manalastas, Jr. and Dr. Milagros M. Viacrucis were the resource speakers for the training which was composed of various lecture sessions and workshops. The primary objective of the training is for RECs to establish and maintain independence and competence following the international and national guidelines. This training is also one of the basic requirements for the institution in their pursuit to apply for PHREB accreditation.

The REMB XI, the regional arm of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), aims to assist institutions in the implementation of policies and development of quality assurance in the review of RECs in Davao Region and its neighboring regions.

To support researchers in the region, DOST XI, in collaboration with Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and ELSEVIER Philippines, conducted an orientation of the Elsevier’s Science Direct and Scopus Databases and Author Writeshop on April 18, 2018 at the Grand Regal Hotel, Lanang, Davao City. About 110 participants from different schools and institutions attended the said orientation and writeshop.

Mr. Pio Salvador Ramon Omana, resource speaker from Elsevier Phils., discussed the Scopus and Science Direct databases. Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III, DOST Regional Director, was also present in the event and delivered his message of motivation for the researchers. Researchers were encouraged to optimize the Remote Access shared by DOST-PCIEERD to help them in enhancing their ability to publish. In the region, there are 27 identified institutions that were given free access.

Both the Scopus and Science Direct databases are tools for strengthening research capabilities, which also aims to help researchers have access on millions of publications and come up with better and patent-worthy researches. Elsevier is a global information analytics provider that assists and helps institutions and professionals advance in the field of healthcare and science. Through this event, DOST XI helps promote awareness and capacitate researchers in the region with library e-resources.
