RHRDC XI participated 5th E-Health Summit
The Department of Health (DOH) together with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) hosted the 5th Philippine eHealth Summit last June 3, 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. With the theme “eHealth Philippines: Big Data, Big on Privacy”, the event became a platform for information dissemination and sharing of the current eHealth related development in the country. Furthermore, concerns on data privacy and big data in relation to the implementation of Data Privacy Act of 2012 and health information exchange, proposed e-health bill and the next 6-years health research agenda were tackled.
This also became a venue to gather information technology and medical practitioners nationwide in order to present the next steps to sustain the Philippine eHealth Strategic Framework and Plan.
During his opening remarks, Dr. Montoya, Executive Director of Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) highlighted technologies such as RxBox and eHatid. He emphasized that the council supported these technologies to reach out to every Filipino in the country-side.
There were parallel and plenary sessions to further elaborate the objective of the event. Dr. Peter Sy from UP Diliman presented “Health Information Exchange, Big Data Research and Data Privacy” during the panel discussion. In the parallel sessions, topics were Healthcare Analytics and Data Privacy: Evidence-Informed Policymaking, Transparency and Right to Privacy presented by Dr. Pedro P. San Diego, Jr. of Philippine Heart Center for the session Health Data Analytics and Data Privacy; eHealth Bill for the 17th Congress presented by Ms. Crispinita A. Valdez of Department of Health for the session eHealth Bill and Assessment of the ICT in Health Research Agenda, 2011-2016 and Drawing up the Medium-Term eHealth Research Agenda, 2017-2022 presented by Dr. Alvin D. Marcelo of UP Manila for the session eHealth Research Agenda, 2017-2022.
The event also became a venue to award the winners of the #ThinkOpenHealth Hackathon Event which was conducted last April 16-17 at the Asian Institute Management (AIM) Conference Center.
This year’s eHealth Summit was participated by Dr. Warlito C. Vicente, Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) Chairperson and Mr. Gregorio Candelario, from Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) and member of the consortium’s ICT Technical Working Group.
