6th PNHRS WEEK CELEBRATION - The Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) delegates led by Dr. Warlito C. Montoya (8th from right) during the 6th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week Celebration at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, CCP Complex, Pasay City held on August 8-10, 2012.
Two (2) finalists from RHRDC XI were selected for the poster exhibit competition - student category. One is the study of Mr. Michael A. Casas (4th from right) of Ateneo de Davao University entitled, “Optimization of Pectin Extraction from the Peels of Citrus microcarpa (Kalamansi) and Proximate Analysis of the Residue for Selected Parameters;” and the study conducted by Mr. Oliver Y. Uy (1st from left) of San Pedro College entitled, “The Water Formulation of Cucumis sativus (Cucumber) Peel Extract as an Antihyperglycemic Agent”. For the professional category, the study entitled, “Inhibition of Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme (ACE) by Indigenous Fermented Foods” by Dr. Dulce M. Flores, MitchellRey M. Toleco (6th from right) and Kristine Mae Y. Abao of the University of the Philippines-Mindanao and the study entitled, “Microbiological Quality Assessment of Selected Street Foods and Survey on the Hygienic Practices and Food Safety Attitudes of Vendors in Selected Areas of Davao City, Philippines” by Dr. Anthony C. Sales of DOST XI, Cecille A. Monton (5th from right) of the Davao Food Safety Team, Dietmar Speckmaier of the Center for International Migration, Jane Roldan and Ann Yngete of the University of the Philippines-Mindanao were selected as finalists. On the other hand, for the oral health research competition – student category, the study of Mr. Rogelio L. Rivera (1st from right) entitled, “Phytochemical and Antimicrobial Screenings of Five Medicinal Plants used as Folkloric Medicine by Mindanaoan Lumads” was chosen as one of the finalists. The PCHRD Gruppo Medica was also awarded during the celebration. Mr. John Carlo L. Madrid (2nd from left) of San Pedro College won 3rd place with the study entitled, “The Antihyperglycemic and Antihypercholesterolemic Activities of the Capsule Formulation from the Whole Plant Extract of Cynodon dactylon Linn. Pers. (Bermuda grass).”
The 6th PNHRS Week Celebration is an annual event conducted by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCHRD) every 2nd week of August by virtue of Proclamation No. 1309 signed in 2007. The celebration provides a platform for the different stakeholders to interact, learn from each other, share information and experiences, voice concerns of respective regions and contribute research-based solutions to health problems, among other things. This year’s theme is Sustaining Research Partnerships for Better Health.
