To strengthen the knowledge of researchers on crafting quality and ethical researches, the Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (RHRDC) Region XI in partnership with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) conducted a two-day training on good research practice held last October 26 & 27 at the SMX Meeting Room, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City.

Dr. Ricardo M. Manalastas Jr., Professor from UP Manila College of Medicine and a member of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board and National Ethics Committee, and Dr. Doris R. Benavides, Resident Physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UP Philippine General Hospital Medical Center and Chair of the UP Manila Research Ethics Board Panel 3, facilitated the lecture on scientific soundness, conflict of interest, social and behavioral research ethics, and data handling. Myths and traditions in research were debunked and explained. They also sensitized the participants regarding the basic concepts of ethical research in order for them to avoid, recognize, and correct common issues.
Aside from the lectures, participants also had the chance to express their opinions and share their ideas through reporting, role-playing, and other group works.
“I am convinced that this has been not only a learning experience, but also an enjoyable one for all of us here,” said Dr. Helen Pondevida, Research Ethics Committee Secretary of RHRDC XI, in her closing remarks.
With the positive outcome of the training, RHRDC believes that the researchers are now capable of making technically and ethically sound studies.
